Wallowing Windows
Does anyone else think they should delay the launch of Windows Vista until they can streamline it a little more? The minimum requirements are as follows:
- 800 Mhz processor
- 512 Mb RAM
- 20 Gb Hard Disk Drive
- 15 Gb free space
- SVGA (800x600)
- CD-ROM drive
Those are fairly high, especially when you consider XP Home will run on:
- 233 Mhx processor (300 Mhz recommended)
- 64 Mb RAM (128 Mb recommended)
- 1.5 Gb free space
Windows Vista Premium, however, is recommended to be run with a minimum of:
- 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
- 1 GB RAM
- A graphics processor that runs Windows Aero (that is to say, DirectX 9 and at least 64 Mb of memory)
- 128 MB of graphics memory
- 40 GB Hard Disk Drive
- 15 GB free space
- DVD-ROM Drive
- Audio output capability
- Internet access capability
Those are some seriously heavy stats. Not that most of the machines we own won't be able to run it, but if you need all that (especially 15 Gb of space just for the OS) just to run the Operating System, you'll need something considerably more powerful to to anything with it.
